Canadian Dental Care Plan Now Open to All Ages – Free & Low-Cost Dental Coverage

Canadian Dental Care Plan Now Open to All Ages – Free & Low-Cost Dental Coverage

May 29, 2025 — A big day for dental care in Canada! The final age group, 35–54 years old, is now eligible for the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP).

If you’re a Canadian resident without dental insurance, the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) offers access to essential dental treatments at reduced or no cost. This federal program aims to make oral health care affordable for millions across the country.

What Is the Canadian Dental Care Plan?

Launched in 2023, the CDCP is a government initiative for Canadians without private dental coverage and with a family net income under $90,000. The plan covers a wide range of dental services depending on your income level.

Who Is Eligible?

  • You don’t have access to dental insurance through work, a family member, or any organization.
  • Your adjusted family net income is below $90,000 per year.
  • You’re a Canadian resident for tax purposes.
  • You and your spouse/common-law partner (if applicable) filed a tax return last year.

Even if you’re part of other provincial or federal dental programs, you may still qualify. Coverage will be coordinated to avoid duplication.

What Dental Services Are Covered?

  • Preventive care (cleanings, fluoride, sealants)
  • Exams and X-rays
  • Fillings and root canals
  • Dentures and repairs
  • Gum treatments and deep cleanings
  • Tooth extractions and oral surgery

Some procedures, like crowns or certain dentures, may need prior approval.

How Much Will You Pay?

  • Income under $70,000: No co-payment (100% covered)
  • $70,000–$79,999: 40% co-payment (60% covered)
  • $80,000–$89,999: 60% co-payment (40% covered)

Note: CDCP pays based on its own fee schedule. If your dentist charges more, you may have to cover the difference.

How to Apply

If you’re eligible, you’ll receive an official letter inviting you to apply. Once approved, you’ll get a welcome package, a member card, and coverage start date. Participating dental offices will bill the program directly.
